Literally the transcript from the dream:
(For storytelling sake, I didn’t clean up anything I said in my half asleep state)
Keanu reeves and girlfriend maybe came for dinner at Q, they sat at 111 *yawn*, they sat down I went to take a drink order. Just me and Sid and uhhh someone else serving. and uhh He looked at the cocktail list which was pretty cool looking, and it was just on one page, uh it wasnt on a full binder, or wine list or something and uh near the bottom of it we had a drink called was it “John Wick” coincidentally and we had *yawn* a drink called Jupiter C, Capital C. and so he ordered, kind of being cool i guess uhh.. a John Miami… and definitely I saw his eyes meet Jupiter C but he called it Planet C. and then I asked his girlfriend and she just said “I would like something that goes with dinner”. We started to get a table that came in and I put down the paper that I wrote and uhh I said Sid I’ll take the table up top, can you make these drinks? Sure– got it. She just wants something that goes with dinner, he wants it’s probably planet Jupiter err Jupiter C but he called it Planet Jupiter. and then a John Miami, which is maybe like uhh maybe the John Wick drink is already a drink somewhere else, maybe there’s a miami version? and then he’s like alright leave it to me, then I woke up.
It was an interesting voice record to have on my phone. I never really remember I keep these things until I stumble upon them at a later date. I asked Sid on a whim that if he had to make a drink for Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend that goes well with our current dinner menu what would it be? A crazy hypothetical question which didn’t receive an answer. Thibaut and I (while polishing the glassware and cutlery in the dining room) began to brainstorm ideas for Jupiter C. After a messy whiteboard session we came up with the following:
In a Martini glass we would put
Gravity Drip Clarified Carrot Juice 2oz
Fireball Whiskey or Goldschlager 1oz
Cinnamon Glitter as rings around the martini glass interior
All of this neatly layered on top of rich Madeira, PX sherry, or maple syrup.
***Eureka moment while editing this post* making the ‘cinnamon glitter’ from cream cheese icing, and using smoked paprika instead of cinnamon because we already have cinnamon in fireball. This idea actually came from a separate dream years ago, another recording that I did.***
Some of the ideas/dialogue that went into this drink were that it needed to be a flaming drink. Jupiter is the god of light. If the drink wasn’t flaming maybe we could light it up with black lights. Quinine glows in black lights — but then we need to build a special base — aa fuck it no quinine. It should be orange colored, Jupiter is orange right? It’s also super cloudy. It has a big red eye of the a storm which never goes away I think? I think I’ve seen some cinnamon sugar swirls on it.
Shortly afterwards we had a group discussion about the John Wick drink (the original, not Miami version)
Ideas were:
Russian drink (vodka), Killed his dog, nothing to lose?, Ak47 Bullet Ice, AK47 vodka? was that a thing? I’m sure I’ve seen giant glass AK47s at liquor stores before. Perhaps we drink the cocktail from clear glass bottles with a cloth sticking out of the top? A flaming cloth? Do we throw the drinks at the customers? I like the cloth idea a lot. Maybe we can use the cloth to keep smoke inside the bottle. We can fill the bottle with AK47 bullet ice, use the polish rectified spirit because that’s something you drink when you’ve got nothing to lose. We can fill the bottle with smoke. That’s where we stopped at the end of day 1. Honestly the fact that all of this stems from a dream is really cool to me.
There was a 3rd cocktail which is a reboot of a cocktail I played around with years ago called the Kinkakuji Martini which used Gold flakes, Matcha, and Absinthe. The reboot would focus on a story I just wrote about drinking matcha called the Emerald Crystal. It would be focusing on a particular part of the story in which the protagonist finds a cave he has been searching for hidden beneath overgrowth. The drink would very unpleasantly be covered in a bush of micro-greens which you would have to painstakingly remove/eat/drink through. Thematically a neat idea, practically kind of torture though. We didn’t talk much about that!
