Strainers, we don’t all need to use them, and the average tea pot either has a strainer built into it, or has space for one to sit inside. I brew in glass carafes most of the time, and I need to use a strainer to filter out my tea. I also prepare matcha somewhat frequently and require a sieve to prevent clumping of the tea powder, seives that are finer than this tend to slow down my matcha brewing too much and become a hassle to use. Over the years I have had a preferred strainer to work with, but it seems to be out of the market, and after trying several new ones, I just keep finding little things I don’t like about them. This strainer is the best I’ve found, it’s cheap, good looking, the mesh is coarse enough to be multi-purpose but fine enough to not cause issues of tea particles getting past. For measurements, the diameter of the basket head is 5.7cm (2.24″) and the total length of the unit from tip to tip is 14.5cm (5.71″)
